A todos los propietarios/visitantes:

Ayer tuvimos un incidente en la urbanización que creemos que todo el mundo debería conocer. Un hombre entró en la urbanización y empezó a ir a todas las puertas, llamando si creía que había alguien, o probando el pomo, y si hablaba con alguien, le decía que era un trabajador de la caridad, y pedía donaciones.

Sospechamos que, en realidad, estaba buscando casas individuales como objetivos de robos o asaltos, como suele ocurrir en esta época del año. Cuando un propietario le desafió, se puso a la defensiva y se puso un poco abusivo diciendo que tenía un permiso para recoger para la caridad. Al menos una casa tenía un marcador azul colocado en las balaustradas, lo que puede haber sido un indicador para los cómplices de quién estaba en la casa: mujer/hombre/pareja/con niños/perro, etc., y todo el tiempo que estás hablando con ellos, están mirando más allá de ti para ver lo que puede estar disponible para ellos para arrebatar: llaves del coche, teléfonos, tabletas, dinero, etc.

En España no se hace ningún tipo de trabajo caritativo legal puerta a puerta, y bajo ninguna circunstancia se debe dar dinero. No deberían estar en la urbanización, están invadiendo una propiedad privada. Es nuestro deber individual como propietarios desafiar a cualquiera que te parezca sospechoso - sólo pregunta si puedes ayudarles o qué están buscando. Si no pueden dar una respuesta creíble, hay que decirles que están invadiendo una propiedad privada y que abandonen la urbanización inmediatamente.

No se trata de un deber del presidente/comité: todos somos propietarios de una vivienda y todos debemos contribuir a mantener la seguridad de la urbanización y de los demás.

To all homeowners/visitors

We had an incident on the urbanisation yesterday that we feel everyone should be aware of.  A man came onto the urb and started going to each door, either knocking if he thought someone was there, or trying the handle, and if he spoke to anyone, he told them he was a charity worker, and asking for donations.

We suspect he was actually looking at individual houses as targets for theft/break ins, as it typically happens at this time of year.  When he was challenged by an owner, he became defensive and a little abusive saying that he had a permit to collect for charity. At least one house had a blue marker placed on the balustrades, which may have been an indicator to accomplices of who was in the house - woman/man/couple/with children/dog etc, and all the time you are talking to them, they are looking beyond you to see what may be available to them to snatch - car keys, phones, tablets, money etc.

There is no legal door to door charity work done in Spain at all, and under no circumstances should you give any money. They should not be on the urbanisation, they are trespassing. It is our individual duty as owners to challenge anyone who you think looks suspicious - just ask if you can help them or what they are looking for. If they cannot give a credible answer, you should tell them that they are trespassing, and to leave the urb immediately.

This is not a president/committee duty - we are all homeowners, and we all have to play a part at keeping each other and the urbanisation safe.
